There are two types of documents in a PPAP:
- Planning Docs: Process Flow Diagrams, Control Plans, PFMEAs
- Execution Docs: Inspection Results, Material Certificates, Test Data, Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA / Gage R&R), Process Capability Studies (Cp, Cpk, Pp, Ppk)
You can create both sets of documents in 1factory and manage all these documents in a simple file management system. Here are the instructions:
CREATING THE DOCS:
- Setup List of Values and Process Library:
- Click on your name in the top-right corner to open the dropdown menu
- Click on List of Values
- Select PPAP > Operation Names.
- Create a List of Operation Names
- Click on the Process icon on the left
- Create a Process Library, defining commonly used PFMEA and Control Plan elements by Process Name (e.g. the Failure Modes, Effects and Controls for Milling will be common across many different parts).
- These will be used as default values for PPAPs you create. You can override these defaults and make Part-specific adjustments as shown below.
- Creating PPAP Planning Docs: Process Flow, PFMEA, Control Plan:
- Start by creating a Manufacturing QC Plan
- Assign an Operation Number to each specification that you want to include in your PFMEA or Control Plan
- Click on the PPAP tab in the Manufacturing QC Plan
- Here you can create all of the PPAP documents:
- Open the Process Flow tab and assign a Process Name for each Operation (e.g., Op 70 is Mill-Turn).
- Make sure to assign operation numbers for all operations including Outside Processing Steps such as Anodizing, Plating etc.
- Open the Control Plan tab. The defaults from the Process Library will be pre-populated in light-grey text. You can override any of these defaults with Part-specific changes.
- Open the PFMEA tab. The defaults from the Process Library will be pre-populated in light-grey text. You can override any of these defaults with Part-specific changes.
- Creating PPAP Execution Docs: Inspection & Test Data, Process Capability Studies etc.:
- Inspection and Test Data can be recorded in 1factory's Manufacturing Inspection tab.
- Process Capability is automatically calculated, and can be output as a report from an Inspection.
- The Specifications as Columns or Specifications as Rows reports are available from within an Inspection to report Inspection & Test Data.
MANAGING THE PPAP DOCS:
- Managing PPAPs in a File Management System
- PPAP Planning and Execution Documents can all be attached and managed under the PPAP tile.
- You can then click on the "Email" icon to email yourself the final PPAP package (Zip file) to send to your customer.
