The Need for Composite Plans:
Consider a company that makes two gearboxes: a 4-speed gearbox and a 6-speed gearbox.
These gear boxes share some components: specifically the 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th Speed Gear Assemblies, and some gaskets, oil and spacers.
Each component has its own Quality Control Plan, as does each final gearbox assembly.
Since the components (or modules or sub-assemblies) may be used in two final assemblies, we do not want to create two separate plans. Instead we want to build a composite inspection plan for a gearbox based on a combination of the Gearbox Plan plus any component plans.
Here are the instructions for building composite plans in 1factory.
Step 1: Create the Component or Module Plans
Create the individual component plans just as you would create any plan.
Step 2: Create the Assembly-Level Plans
Create the assembly plans, and on the Properties Tab, set Composite Plan = Yes
Once you've set and saved the Composite Plan property, you will see a new tab called Sub-Plans:
Note: the Assembly Part Number must have an associated BoM before the Composite = Yes/No setting shows up.
Step 3: Create the Assembly-Level Inspections
The assembly-level inspections will now include all the parameters to be checked for the parent assembly, and any parameters to be checked on any of the sub-plans.
