Manufacturing Dimensions, Filtering Reports, Cloning Selected Specs
On Sunday May 20, 2018, we deployed the following product improvements:
Manufacturing Dimensions
Our customers often have to deal with dimensions that may not be on the final product drawing.
Example 1: You may need to record a pre-anodization dimension for your internal process control (not reported to your customer), as well as a post-anodization dimension (which you need to report to your customer). In this case, you would mark the pre-anodization dimension as a "Manufacturing Dimension".
Example 2: You need to create a fixturing location on the part. Add the required features as "Manufacturing Dimensions".
Example 3: You need to measure the same feature out on the manufacturing floor , as well as in the QC Lab, but with different inspection frequencies and different equipment at each location. In this case, we recommend creating two features, and marking the factory floor feature as a "Manufacturing Dimension".
#1. Linear Dimension 1.550+/-0.005, CMM, Sample Size = 13 [Mfg Dim = "No"]
#1.1 Linear Dimension 1.550+/-0.005, Go/No-Go, 1 in 10 [Mfg Dim = "Yes"]
Example 4: You want the manufacturing floor to hold certain dimensions to tighter tolerances than those permitted by your customer (because these dimensions impact other dimensions later in the manufacturing process). Once again, create a new feature, and mark it as a "Manufacturing Dimension".
Adding Manufacturing Dimensions from the Drawing Ballooning page:
To add a manufacturing dimension, add a balloon, and then set Mfg. Dim. to Yes. Manufacturing dimensions are added as red squares.
Adding Manufacturing Dimensions from the Add Spec tab:
Similarly, you can set Mfg Dim to "Yes" from the Add Spec page by either selecting a single feature, or by using the group edit feature, or by using the new clone feature described below.
Excluding Manufacturing Dimensions from Reports:
First Articles: Manufacturing Dimensions are automatically excluded from First Article reports.
All Other Inspections: To exclude Manufacturing Dimensions from Inspection Reports, you must filter Mfg. Dim. to "N" in the table, and then run the required report.
Filtering Reports
All reports are now "filter sensitive". In other words, if you have an active filter on your screen, your report will mimic the selected filters. In the example below, all reports will be filtered to display only data for Op 3 (the active filter)
Cloning One or More Specs
If you need to clone a feature, you can do it one of two ways:
1. From within a new Spec: by clicking on "Copy Previous"
2. By selecting one or more specs, and then clicking on "Clone". In the example below, features 8, 10, and 11 will be cloned as 8.1, 10.1 and 11.1 respectively.
You can also optionally set the properties for the clones at the same time:
Pro Tip: We believe that clone functionality will be especially helpful if you need to create Manufacturing Dimensions for many features. You can create them all at once using the Clone functionality, and you'll find that the system adds red square balloons for each feature on the drawing.
